Director of Operations

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Type: Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week

Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Starting Wage: $22.00 per hour

Opening Date: May 28, 2026 Closing Date: June 4, 2026

Position Summary

Rural America Initiatives is seeking a dependable and organized Director of Operations to assist with daily organizational operations, budgeting support, purchasing procedures, vendor coordination, and administrative oversight across programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily organizational operations and administrative oversight
  • Support program directors with operational and budget-related needs
  • Assist with purchase order review and purchasing procedures
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers
  • Support communication between administration and program leadership
  • Assist with operational planning and organizational procedures
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Management, or related field required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in budgeting, purchasing, operations, or administrative oversight preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must pass required background checks

Head Start/Early Head Start

Now hiring for positions:
  • 2 Toddler Teachers: Fulltime, year-round Early Head Start responsible for managing as Lead Teacher in the classroom with 8 Toddlers and Co-Teacher.  Willing to obtain CDA.  Experience in Early Childhood a plus.
  • 2 Bus Drivers/Floaters: Fulltime, year-round Head Start.  Rural America Initiatives will pay for your licensing fee.  Must be reliable, flexible, and available early morning hours or later evening hours to drive or ride the bus. 
  • 1 Floater: Fulltime, year-round.
 
Monday -Friday shift hours 7:30-3:30, 8:00-4:00, 8:30-4:30
 
Benefits include:

THE Ateyapi Mentor Program:

Project It's Your Game Middle School Program

POSITION: 1 Ateyapi Mentor Floater

WAGES: $17.00 per hour with benefits

HOURS: Full-time 40 hours or part-time 25 hours 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A valid South Dakota driver’s license and proof of insurability are necessary.
  • Minimum of two years of sobriety required.
  • Successful completion of a background check covering abuse and neglect, driving record, and pre-employment drug screening is mandatory.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who live a healthy drug and alcohol-free lifestyle, non-smokers, able to work with minimal supervision, and capable of thriving in a professional school environment, able to speak or learn the Lakota Language, Red Road teachings, and Lakota culture.
  • Project It’s Your Game Middle School Program Applicants must be 25 years or older and hold a valid South Dakota driver’s license.

Job Duties:

  • Provide tutoring to middle school students.
  • Perform school-related duties as assigned by the principal and program manager.
  • Implement the “It’s Your Game” and Lakota values lessons curriculum.
  • Job training will be provided.
  • Recruit students as needed.
